Probably because (the majority of) bloggers that get loads of comments seem, IMO, to either
a) comment on loads of blogs themselves (i.e. the personal style people with a million "OMG I LOVE YOUR SHOES") b) were one of the "original" bloggers c) get a lot of mainstream press/traffic coming in from somewhere so people think they're famous and it snowballs d) blog in a non-English language and so have a more specific group to 'market' themselves to.
